FAA Test Hazard Analysis

FAR No.:

25.904

FAR Title:

Automatic Takeoff Thrust Control System (ATTCS)

Risk Level:

High

Maneuver Title:

V1 cut Takeoff

Maneuver Description:

See FAR Part 24 Appendix I for details:

Critical Time Interval. When conducting an ATTCS takeoff, the critical time interval is between V1 minus 1 second and a point on the minimum performance, all-engine flight path where, assuming a simultaneous occurrence of an engine and ATTCS failure, the resulting minimum flight path thereafter intersects the Part 25 required actual flight path at no less than 400 feet above the takeoff surface.

Hazard:

Loss of directional control on runway

Cause(s):

1. 1. Insufficient control power to maintain directional control on runway
2. ATTCS fails to operate

Mitigation(s):

1.1 1. Power reduction speeds to be always greater than Vmcg
2. Perform tests in order of decreasing performance capability
3. Check ATTCS status just prior to Brake Release.

Warning: It is imperative that this information be applied by a knowledgeable flight test professional given the inherently hazardous nature of these activities. This data is general and all items may not apply. Application may require additional research to understanding the safe approach and mitigation sequence for a specific flight test situation.
